The Fairground

Barbara Jones (1912-1978)

The School Prints, published in 1945 until the early1950’s, were an innovative approach to make contemporary art accessible. Leading artists and illustrators were commissioned to design colour lithographs which could be editioned in large enough runs to make them affordable to schools, enlivening their corridors for British children deprived of visual stimulation throughout WWII. Somewhat forgotten, they were re-discovered in the 1990’s and have become much admired and collectable. View them and read the story in ‘The School Prints. A Romantic Project.’ by Ruth Artmonsky.
