Deceleration II
Gerald Laing
Gerald Laing, artist, sculptor and print maker, was born in Newcastle upon Tyne. Initially he trained as a soldier serving as a lieutenant, after Sandhurst, in Ireland and Germany. A re-appraisal of his ambitions led to him studying at St. Martins School of Art in London. He was introduced to artists in New York and moved there upon graduation in the early 1960s. Friends included Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, and he worked in the same exciting pop art genre. After later years moving into minimalist, then representational sculpture, he returned to his pop art roots in 2004, creating paintings of Amy Winehouse and, Kate moss and Victoria Beckham.
