Marcella Smith
A framed oil painting by a leading St. Ives artist Marcella Smith (1887-1963), who was born in Surrey but raised in USA , studying art in Washington and Philadelphia, then in Paris. She first came to St. Ives with its emerging art colony in 1914, and had success at the RA in 1916 with her work ‘St.Ives Harbour’. Then moved to London in 1921 to join artist Dorothea Sharp who became her companion for many years and they lived together in St. Ives during WWII, eventually she died in St.Ives at 1 Piazza Studios.
Framed oil painting in excellent condition.
