Clare White (1903-1997)

Born in Sidmouth, Clare spent much of her later years in St. Ives, but was much travelled around Europe and the West Indies, painting wonderfully expressive and colourful watercolours along the way. Her work usually included everyday scenes with ordinary people engaged in their day to day life. She spoke French, Italian and German. As well as quaint cottages and harbour scenes from the South West of England, she was inspired by subjects in Italy, Switzerland, France and Barbados in the West indies. Their exuberance has made her works unique and highly covetable.
