The hardest thing to see

New York born and from 1937 worked in advertising as a designer. Posted to Wales in WWII he painted glamorous blondes on US air-force planes! He married and stayed, studying at Chelsea College of Art. He was a committed political campaigner and, although a successful advertising designer, wanted to find a way of expressing his ideals through his work. He set up Taurus Press in 1959. He developed a direct style through the strong, expressive quality of lino cut lettering and imagery to deliver humanitarian messages and illustrate quotes, poems and tales.. He taught at Chelsea, Leicester and the London College of Printing.
